NEW
MAJOR IN DIGITAL ARTS
Photography and Media Arts — Digital Media Major
The School of Art has recently created a new department, Photography and Media Arts. This department has developed a brand new program of study in the area of new media — the Digital Media Major. The Digital Media Major develops a student’s creative practice through studies in computer animation, interactivity, computer music, sound, and digital video. Emerging aspects of new media such as networked systems, distributive technologies, and sound installation are also explored and taught. Other student activities include, research, exhibitions, festivals, recording, publishing and the performance of new media and time-based arts. The program is designed for students seeking a well-rounded and creative education in all aspects of new media. Graduates will go on to develop careers in the arts industry, or in film and television, visual effects and digital animation, digital sound production, multimedia, and online design. The lecturers in the program all have extensive industry experience as well as their own individual research interests and creative practices. The School of Art is a unique and exciting interdisciplinary environment for the use of computers by artists and creative professionals interested in exploring the full potential of emerging technologies and new media.
Photography and Media Arts also teaches a Master of Visual Effects, and a Master of New Media Arts, as well as offering research programs at PhD and Master of Philosophy level.
