HRC Colloquium
Australian Art, Craft and New Media Now:
Aesthetics, National and Politics
Venue
Old Canberra House, ANU
Dates
25 February 2004
Convener
Charles Green
This HRC-sponsored Symposium will focus on questions related
to the meaning and significance of contemporary Australian art,
craft and new media.
What are the aesthetic and political advantages, particularly
today, of the lack of a single direction in contemporary Australian
art, new media and craft?
Does it make sense anymore to speak categorically of "What's
Australian," especially in an increasingly international
art and new media world?
Fifteen invited panelists (including 2004 curators) will consider
both Australian and non-Australian points of view. After a morning
and early afternoon session of short presentations and discussion,
invited speakers, including art historians, critics, and curators,
will join in a dialogue. The outcome will be published on the
web prior to June 2004, as part of the event lead-in.
