The Biennial Freilich Foundation Bigotry and Tolerance Summer School
Every two years the Freilich Foundation
convenes a summer school for teachers working in Australian schools. Applications are invited from school teachers from all levels of the education sector, from all disciplines and from both the private and public sectors.
The summer school will be held in Canberra at the Australian National University.
The Foundation will cover the cost of travel, accomodation and most meals.
The inaugural summer school held in 2007 was held on the theme of 'Understanding Islam'. Over 100 applications were received. Forty teachers from around Australia were fully funded to attend and had this to say about their experience.
'I found the content of the program to be stimulating and very well prepared. We were very privileged to hear from people who were obviously experts in the field.'
'A note of appreciation that cannot do justice to the time and effort put into setting up and running of this Summer School.'
'I feel that I have learnt a lot and am very conscious of my responsibility to share what I've learnt and apply it.'
'I have been stimulated by the lectures discussions and interaction with other participants. The high quality of the program in general and the speakers specifically is to be commended.'
'Being selected to participate in the Freilich Foundation Summer School was a great privilege! I would certainly recommend the Summer School to others as the quality of the information presented was of a very high standard'.
'I had an inspiring time at the lectures, enjoyed the breaks to the Mosque and the movie, and personal needs were well catered for.'
'Having this block of time in this venue and for me at the end of the school holidays was perfect. I'd had a break from school. I can see how I'll work this material into cross faculty areas and equally identify colleagues with whom I can share etc, and relate to the primary feeder schools that supply our high school.'
